Don Shaddick- Principal of Shaddicks Lawyers
The Principal of the firm, Don Shaddick, has practised as a lawyer for over thirty years.
Don was admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1972.
Immediately following his admission, he was appointed manager of the firm Pye, Shaw & Co at Blacktown, the firm with which he had served Articles of Clerkship.
In 1974, he founded the firm Shaddick Baker & Paull in Windsor and it operated as a branch office to the Blacktown firm, then known as Pye Shaddick & Baker. In 1979, the firm moved its office to Richmond where it continued to operate for many years.
Following the retirement from the firm of lawyer John Baker and the subsequent dissolution of the firm Shaddick Baker & Paull, the firm "Shaddicks Lawyers" was established.
During the early years of his practice as a Solicitor, Don conducted a broad general practice covering: advocacy in civil, criminal family law and liquor licensing cases, business law, conveyancing, personal injuries law, building cases, local government, commercial law and commercial litigation.
As his career as a Solicitor progressed, his interest in Business Law developed and in 1989 he became accredited by the Law Society of New South Wales as a Specialist in Business Law.
His practice requires and involves:
- Negotiation and drafting of a diverse range of commercial agreements and security documents;
acquisitions and sales of businesses; - Company restructures;
- Bankruptcy and liquidations;
- A working knowledge of accounting principles;
- A good knowledge of the impact of federal and state taxes upon transactions;
- Commercial litigation including legal research, drafting pleadings, attending to interlocutory applications, discovery of documents, briefing and liaising with counsel, preparing evidence for trial and instructing Counsel at trial;
- Detailed knowledge and considerable experience in commercial, industrial, development and rural conveyancing;
- Estate & Business Succession Planning.
Don has conducted litigation in the High Court of Australia, Supreme Court of NSW and the Court of Appeal, Land & Environment Court, Industrial Relations Commission, District Court of NSW and Local Courts.
He often acts as an advocate in contractual disputes in the Local Court, at mediations and arbitrations and before various tribunals.
Don represents many successful corporations throughout the greater Sydney region and in country New South Wales.
